Outcome

I successfully developed a Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 5 Private Server which was running 24/7, auto rated Item Shop each day, Custom Launcher, Custom Item Marketplace, vBucks on Event, Challenges, Friends / Party Support. So basically the whole private server worked, I coded the whole backend in Javascript & the Gameserver itself in C++. The Gameserver was pretty unstable & I got kinda bored of it. At this time they also started to announce the Fortnite OG Season so I just stopped and continued with my Web Development...

started this project because Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 5 was one of my best summer experiences, and I wanted to bring back those nostalgic vibes. Here's how I structured the project:

  1. Developing the Backend: I used NodeJS to handle user accounts, party/friends services. This included creating an auto-rotating Item Shop, which I've documented and made open source on GitHub (FrostOnAcid/FortniteShopRotator). I also added support for Challenges/Battle Pass.

  2. Custom Launcher Creation: To make it easy for users to access the private server, I developed a custom launcher, similar to the Epic Games Launcher. This was integrated with the backend set up on my Linux VPS.

  3. Marketplace for Custom Items: Users could upload their custom items, created through Unreal Engine Modding, as .pak files to the backend. These items were then available for others to download.

  4. Modifying the Gameserver: I started with a base from an open-source project and modified it to interact with my backend. This setup allowed for tracking in-game events like kills, placements, and wins, which then rewarded players with vBucks. These vBucks could be used to purchase cosmetics from the daily rotating item shop, incentivizing gameplay.

Overall, this project was not just fun but also a great learning experience, especially in understanding APIs and their interaction with C++ using libcurl.
